Protesting;; Does It Really Have The Same Effect As It Once Did?

So yesterday I was out running errands with my father, and we drove through the downtown area a few times, and we saw a small group of older people holding protest signs. They picked a great place for it too, because all the young college students were passing by, and there was a cafe` just across the street.

They were protesting the Iraq war, I had to say, I felt for them. My brother has been planning on joing the service for awhile now, and he got his draft card a few days ago, because he is infact 18 now. Which means, he can sign that dotted line and he can be sent anywhere. I do think he needs the strict rules and such to set him straight. It's rather sad, he just got his lisence a bit ago, but he is 18, and he's still acting rather rash. It's almost like he's more my age, or younger. I guess, in this case, it's true, women do happen to mature faster then some men. I'm not saying this is true for all, but in this case, it is.

Anyways, the last time we drove by them, I counted 4 honks for peace, and the small group of older people, had grown to a larger group, there were people of all ages by then. But still, I feel like many just overlooked the protesters. We have right to protest, it's written in our rights, but alas, if the protesting doesn't have a large impact, are we hindering society by standing out there, trying to voice our minds, when honestly, most are just overlooking us?

I really wanted to be out there with them. I think this war has gone on long enough.

But some people get confused about the war, you can't protest against the soliders who get sent there, for they are protecting us, but you can protest the war it self.

It's wrong to say to a soldier "War is wrong" because, for example, they don't really have the chance to back down.

I honestly don't know much about this, but this is just how I see it.

I'm not asking for anyone to be-little me on the war issue, this is more about protesting.

I'm acutally sort of considering joing the guard, so I can get through school and all.
Who knows what the future holds.

Anyways, main issue of this post is,

Protesting, does it still have the same effect as it once did?

Why or why not?

Here's some quotes and icons.

[1.] When you truly care for someone, you don`t look for faults. You don`t look for answers. You don`t look for mistakes. Instead, you fight the mistakes. You accept the faults & you overlook excuses. The measure of love is when you love without measure. There are rare chances that you`ll meet the person you love & who loves you in return. So once you have it, don`t ever let go. The chance might never come your way again.

[2.] our eyes are placed in front because it is moreimportant to look ahead than to look back.

[3.] every single person has at least one secret that would break your heart. if we could just remember this, i think there would be a lot more compassion and tolerance in the world.

[4.] if we discovered that we only had five minutes leftto say what we wanted to say, every phone booth, every cell phone, would be occupied by people calling others to stammer that they love them.

[5.] When you judge someone, you don't define them, you define yourself.

[6.] be what you want to be. not what others want to see. and sometimes things just fall apart so other things can fall together.

[7.] happiness lies for those who cry, those who hurt, those who have searched, and those who have tried.for only they can appreciate the importance of people who have touched their lives

[8.] gravitation is not responsible for people falling in love.- albert einstein

[9.] I think everybody has brokenness. There's no doubt about that.We live in a fallen world. This is not heaven. Everybody has scars.Everybody is hurting somewhere, I guarantee you that.Everyone has a hidden hurt.

[10.] whatever you go through, it all makes you stronger.no matter how many tears, or how many screams or whines.even when you think your postive its all making you weaker.and tearing you down from the inside out.but It never does, it only prepares you for the future.

[11.] i'm starting to realize that we live in order to change someone else's life.

[12.] Do you want me to tell you something really subversive? Love is everything it's cracked up to be. That's why people are so cynical about it. It really is worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for. And the trouble is, if you don't risk everything, you risk even more.

[13.] I think everyone has a certain part of their life where they truly wish they could freeze time.Whether it was three years ago, today, or still to come.Whether it was just a moment, a whole day, or a whole summer.Everyone has a time in their life where they wish everything wouldjust stop, the world would stop turning and the people would stop changing.Because to them, at that time, everything was perfect.

[14.] dreams are always crushing when they don't come true. but it's the simple dreams that are often the most painful, because they seem so personal, so reasonable, so attainable. you're always close enough to touch, but never close enough to hold. and it's enough to break your heart.-- The Notebook

[15.]i couldn't sleep last night because i know that it's over between us. i'm not bitter anymore, because i know that what we had was real. and if in some distant place in the future we see each other in our new lives, i'll smile at you with joy and remember how we spent the summer beneath the trees, learning from each other and growing in love. the best love is the kind that awakens the sould and makes us reach for more, that plants a fire in our heards and brings peace to our minds, and that's what you've given me. that's what i hope to give to you forever, i love you. - The Notebook

[16.] Damaged people are always dangerous, because they know they can survive.

[17.]i wanted a guy that wouldnt care about what i wear or how i do my hair. who would love my smile and my dorky laugh and how i get hyper when i'm tired who would never want to see me cry-- at least not tears of sadness && who would do those small things that make my day just because he knows it would make me happy, but i found you, and your so much better than that.

[18.] i believe we place our happiness in our own hands. i believe your parents did the best job they knew how to do. i believe that drugs are a waste of life. i believe i'm loved when i'm completely alone. i believe in karma, what you give is what you get. i believe you can't appreciate real love until you've been burned. i believe the grass isn't greener on the other side. i believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbye. i believe that trust is more important than people think. i believe that your most attractive feature is your heart. i believe that family is worth more than money or gold. i believe the struggle for financial freedom is unfair. i believe the only ones who disagree are millionaires. i believe forgiveness is the key to your unhappiness. i believe that God is the only one who won't let you down. i believe in love survivng death into eternity. these are hard times for dreamers

[19.]sometimes it just takes patience for everything to happen. you won't get respect in just one day, you can't be in love with someone you just met, and you won't be able to forgive yourself in a second. i've learned that helping people is good, but helping someone too much won't let them grow. you grow by making mistakes, getting hurt and learning from your regrets. thoughts are there to help guide you to your decision. it's you that has to take that first step into thepathway of happiness. it's your doing that makes you who you are. don't assume; get your fact straight. that is what messes a lot of people up. there's always the truestory and reasoning behind everything. we are all different, but have one thing in common, we all want happiness. it is like we're all trying to fight for it, tryingto get what we want, and it makes us forget the whole reason why we wantedit in the first place. nobody said life is going to be easy. life is what you makeof it. don't be selfish. don't limit yourself from doing things just because you don'tthink you can make it through. remember, time isn't going to wait for you, so..make the best of it.

[20.] sometimes when you're dealing with extraordinary people, you need to take risks.
